Refunds to go out in Countrywide settlement

Washington • More than 450,000 homeowners who took out mortgages with Countrywide Financial Corp. will soon receive their slice of a nearly $108 million settlement over claims that the lender overcharged borrowers facing foreclosure.

The Federal Trade Commission said Wednesday it will mail refund checks to 450,177 borrowers starting Thursday.

The action stems from a settlement reached last year between the FTC and Bank of America Corp., which acquired Countrywide in July 2008.

The deal resolved federal charges that Countrywide charged borrowers who were behind on their mortgages with fees that added up to hundreds or thousands of dollars. T Find more info…

Last Thursday the U.S. Census Bureau released local-level demographic data from the 2010 census for Arizona (along with five other states bringing the total number of states with data released so far to 18).

MARKET TREND: Austin’s Office Deliveries and Construction in Q2 2011

During the second quarter 2011, one building totaling 110,000 square feet were completed in the Austin market area. This compares to three buildings totaling 7,500 square feet that were completed in the first quarter 2011, seven buildings totaling 88,189 square feet completed in the fourth quarter 2010, and 21,929 square feet in four buildings completed in the third quarter 2010.

There were 274,873 square feet of office space under construction at the end of the second quarter 2011. Find more info…
