Homeowners in danger of losing their properties to foreclosure have until Friday to apply for as much as $50,000 in assistance from the federal government under the Emergency Homeowners’ Loan Program.
The program, administered by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, is intended to help unemployed or underemployed homeowners or those who have a medical condition get current on their mortgage payments. Some or all of the amount of assistance may be forgiven.
Homeowners who meet certain criteria may be able to get help making their mortgage payments for up to two years. Homeowners must apply through a HUD-approved housing counseling agency serving the state in which they reside. To find an agency that serves Utah, go to bit.ly/ogDWwb and click on “Find a Counseling Agency Near You.”
