WASHINGTON, DC
Avison Young Expands With Addition of Millennium Realty Advisors; Taps Founders as Principals

Avison Young, a Toronto, ON-headquartered commercial real estate services firm, purchased Millennium Realty Advisors LLC, a Virginia-based brokerage group that focuses on agency leasing and tenant representation. The deal increases AY’s coverage throughout the Northern Virginia/Washington, DC market.

Millennium was formed nearly 14 years ago by 30-year industry veteran John McEvilly (left) and 25-year professional Mike Shuler (far left). The company has negotiated more than $6 billion in deals during its history and currently has 6.5 million square feet in listings. Millennium’s client list has consisted of Prudential Real Estate Investors, JBG Cos., Apollo, BPG Properties, Akridge and Crescent Resources. Some noteworthy lease deals include 435,000 square feet for the Environmental Protection Agency, 207,000 square feet signed by Oblon Spivak, CACI International’s 229,000-square-foot lease and Fannie Mae’s 230,000-square-foot deal.

Nine employees from Millennium will move to AY. McEvilly and Shuler, along with Douglas Eliot, James Palmer and Robert Walters joined as principals. Nathan Krill and Joseph Pilch were named vice presidents in brokerage services in Virginia, Sophrona Chinoy was tapped as director and Ulyana Radisavljevic is the marketing assistant.


PORTLAND
NBS Completes Changes to Leadership Team
Norris, Beggs & Simpson Cos., one of Portland’s oldest full-service commercial real estate companies, promoted Jan Robertson (pictured) to serve as the firm’s first female CEO. The company has also named J. Clayton Hering as chairman.

Robertson joined NBS in 1981 in an administrative position and quickly rose through the ranks to become a partner in 1993 and has served as CFO since 2005. She is a member of IREM and NAIOP, and is also a strong supporter of arts in education through her leadership positions in Young Audiences and the Regional Arts & Culture Council.

Hering will serve as the firm’s Chairman of the Board, a newly created position, and will focus on strategic planning, mentoring, business development and community involvement, while reducing his role in day-to-day operations.

“Jan is simply the best person to run this company,” Hering said. “As CFO she’s had to make tough decisions, which she has ably done, while always keeping the well-being of our employees and clients first and foremost.”

NBS has also promoted two partners to the role of president in two of the company’s divisions: Chris Johnson, one of Portland’s top investment and office leasing brokers, will serve as president of NAI Norris, Beggs & Simpson Commercial Real Estate Services, and Ken Griggs, an experienced mortgage banker, will be president of NBS Financial Services. Susan Stratton remains president of the company’s third division, NBS Multifamily Management.


DALLAS/FORT WORTH
Avison Young Opens Dallas Office; Taps Former Grubb Exec as Head

Avison Young expanded is presence in Texas with the opening of a new office in Dallas. Industrial specialist Brock Wilson (left) will head the team as managing director and was named a principal in the Toronto-based firm.

Wilson was most recently a senior vice president in Grubb & Ellis’ Industrial and Investment Services groups in Dallas. The tenant representative brokered more than 400 deals in seven years for corporate users and private and institutional investors. Before Grubb, Wilson spent seven years at First Industrial Realty Trust (NYSE: FR) gaining leadership experience. As senior vice president–west region he marketed and leased 25 million square feet of industrial space and more than 3,000 acres of development property across seven states and western Canada.

AY’s Houston office, which was launched 13 months ago, recently recruited Scott Fikes and Alex Bryant, both formerly of Grubb, as vice presidents in its tenant representation services group. Fikes has brokered for both tenants and landlords and has seven years of experience. He earned several top producer awards at Grubb. Bryant, a tenant rep, is a former senior associate with the firm’s office group in Houston.


DALLAS/FORT WORTH
Veteran To Head Henry S. Miller Realty Management Division

Dallas-based Henry S. Miller Cos. promoted Brian Whisnand, CPM from vice president to president of the realty management division. Whisnand will lead all property management functions including the daily supervision of the company’s 5,000-unit multifamily portfolio.

Whisnand has more than three decades of industry experience. He started on the property management leadership track in 1978 when he joined JMB Realty as vice president. After a 21-year tenure at the apartment investor syndicator, Whisnand moved to Equity Residential and oversaw 12,000 units in the Southwest before his role expanded to directing all markets in the Midwest. After Equity, CNC Investments in Houston hired him as chief operating officer to supervise 42,000 units in six states.


LOS ANGELES
JLL Adds Specialist to Healthcare Solutions Group

Fifteen-year health care industry professional Jason J. Clark joined Jones Lang LaSalle (NYSE:JLL) in Los Angeles. As managing director in the JLL’s Healthcare Solutions Group, he will work with hospitals and health-related systems in the western region, which stretches from Colorado to California.

Clark is a former executive with the Hammes Co., a health care real estate consulting and development firm. His specialty is strategic planning, facilities and project management, development and financing of health care facilities.

JLL has boosted its health care division and services in the past 12 months. The firm formed a strategic alliance with Pacific Medical Buildings to provide full service commercial property solutions to health care groups. Joseph Euphrat was appointed West Coast leader of JLL’s Healthcare Capital Markets and 30-year veteran Sydney Scarborough joined the solutions group as managing director.


SACRAMENTO
Cippa Joins Colliers International
Steve Cippa, SIOR, joined the Colliers International Sacramento office as senior vice president. Cippa previously worked at Colliers from 1999 to 2007, participating and developing a national accounts platform with the property asset management division.

The 35-year commercial real estate veteran specializes in industrial brokerage. For the last four years Cippa ran his own company, where he was instrumental in the joint venture and repositioning of 100 acres of rural industrial zoned land in South Sutter County. Ultimately, he entitled that site to allow for 1.1 million square feet of manufacturing and industrial distribution facilities.

Prior to joining Colliers in 1999, Cippa worked at CB Richard Ellis for 15 years where he was a part of the site selection, negotiation, acquisition and entitlement of 450 acres, which allowed for the development of Arco Arena, home to the Sacramento Kings NBA team.


DALLAS/FORT WORTH
Trammell Crow Names New Principal, General Counsel
Trammell Crow Co. promoted Scott A. Dyche to principal and general counsel.

In his new role, Dyche will oversee all legal affairs relating to the company as well as being responsible for retention, supervision and coordination of all outside counsel, litigation management and supervision of legal group staff.

Dyche’s previous position at TCC was senior vice president of investment management and deputy general counsel. He has been with the firm since 2006 and before that had more than 20 years experience in private practice.


PHILADELPHIA
Berkadia Hires Fannie Mae Veteran
Berkadia Commercial Mortgage has hired Frank Lutz as a senior vice president and liaison to Fannie Mae. He will support GSE production growth.

Lutz had spent the last 18 years at Fannie Mae, rising through the ranks to vice president of customer management in its Northeast business center.

Lutz will be based in Berkadia’s headquarters office, and will oversee all Fannie Mae pricing and delivery activities.
